Jim Lane started A-Best Roofing in 1988 with a pickup, a ladder, and the rule that you don't put your name on a roof you wouldn't sleep under. Thirty-eight years later, his son Jarod runs the same shop on East 3rd Street.
In the meantime, the crew has laid more than 35,000 roofs across Green Country — through ice storms, the 1999 tornado, the May '23 hail, and every quiet Tuesday in between. The phone number on the truck is still the one Jim wrote down in 1988.
